Mirador Court Pickleball Memberships, October 1
Known for being the fastest growing sport, Pickleball is taking the world by storm — and San Carlos is no exception. Mirador Courts boasts 6 community courts, as well as a seating area, restroom facility, Bonifacio’s restaurant, and some of the best views in town.
The new season starts on October 1 and you can purchase your new membership passes at Seaside Realty in Plaza Arrecifes (behind the ARCO gas station), starting on Tuesday, October 1. Please don’t go in to purchase your passes before this date as they will not be available.
This year, we will have 3 different types of Pickleball Memberships:
* Annual (1500 pesos for the year — same as last year);
* Monthly (500 pesos per month);
* Weekly (200 pesos per week).
The memberships are color-coded and you’ll be asked to show your membership pass when you play, so please bring it with you each time. The Welcome Letter you’ll receive upon paying for your membership will provide you with court rules and they are also posted on the San Carlos Pickleball website.
In an effort to Reduce/ReUse/Recycle, we are asking players who purchase a Monthly or Weekly membership to kindly deposit their expired pass in the mailbox at the front gate at the courts so that we can reuse the lanyard and plastic cover. Thank you.
There are lots of benefits to being a Mirador Courts member — and it is just so darn fun! Lessons and clinic information is forthcoming, once more members are back in town.
More information is available on the website and Facebook page. See you on the courts!
Sombrero Showdown Registration opens, October 10
For all pickleball players level 3.0 and above, you are invited to participate in the Sombrero Showdown & Amigos Cup International pickleball tournament, which will take place from February 6 – 10, 2020 at Mirador Courts.
The past two years have been extremely fun and successful, and we are looking forward to another tournament full of great competition and lots of surprises.
The online registration opens on Thursday, October 10. Registration is limited. Similar to last year, you need to complete your registration on pickleballtournaments.com. Click on the Welcome link to review all the details including dates of play and fee. If you are coming from out of town, we have secured some discounted hotel rates or contact a listed rental agency found on the Lodging link.
If you don’t have a partner yet, don’t worry. Register for the tournament now and then keep looking for others online who need partners in your skill and age bracket.
If you want to play in the Amigos Cup on Monday, February 10, you must also tick off that section when you register and be committed to play on that day because you will be part of a team of players.
We are very lucky to have Pro Scott Moore join us once again and he’ll offer both a 1-day camp and mini-clinic options just before the tournament. More details to follow.
Halloween Monster Smash Tournament, October 27

The morning will be full of surprises, followed by some treats and drinks afterwards.
Costumes (at minimum a mask or facepaint) are required to participate. There’ll be Prizes for best costumes! For your safety, court shoes must be worn.
The fun starts at 8:30am.
Space is limited. If you would like to participate in this Round Robin, please email Sue at suefehrle@gmail.com by Thursday, October 24.
Open Play, Monday – Saturday
Open Play takes place every morning except Sunday from 7:00am to noon. In order to accommodate all the skill levels, we are scheduling the Open Play as follows:Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays:
Players under skill level 3.5 will play on four courts — Courts 4, 5, 6 and 3.
Players skill level 3.5 and above will play on two courts – Courts 1 and 2.
Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays:
Players skill level 3.5 and above will play on four courts — Courts 1, 2, 3 and 6.
Players under skill level 3.5 will play on two courts – Courts 4 and 5.
Continue to use the paddle holders as you are now — lower skill levels use the holders on the wind-sock side; higher skill levels use the paddle holder on the Bonifacio’s side). Please do not re-arrange players’ paddles once they are in the holder.
How do you know your skill level? Base it on what skill level you would play in a tournament — including our upcoming Sombrero Showdown. The USAPA provides Skill Assessment Sheets on their website. Click here for assessments for all skill levels. You can also ask James Main, Darren Thompson, Deb Forrester or Theresa Melius to help you determine your skill rating.
Open play is a great way to meet new friends and hone your skills. You don’t need to gather a group of friends to go play, you can just show up by yourself and get in on a game. Arrive and leave at any time during Open Play.
When you arrive at the courts, put your paddle in the paddle-holder so you can get on a court and PLAY!
You can also check the calendar or court reservation system for Open Play days and times.
And remember, you can reserve your own court anytime around the Open Play times if you want to play with specific people for a few hours or do some drills with a few friends.
Sunday Round Robins, Queen/King of the Courts, clinics — will start in November once more members are back in town. Stay tuned for more information.
