A group of Mirador Court members enjoyed a pickleball clinic with Pro Scott Crandall. Thank you to James Main for bringing Scott here and for hosting him this weekend.
Crack filling to begin at Mirador Courts
This Sunday, December 1, we are going to start repairing the crack in Courts 2 and 4. A huge “thank you” to Russell Morales and James Lambott for taking the lead on this maintenance work.
They will work in sections.
Once the liquid concrete is poured and again once they are painted, the courts will need time to dry, so please do NOT use Courts 2 and 4 until you are told they are ready to be played on.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
As a side note….DO NOT PARK any motorized vehicles (including RZRs or motorcycles) on the landscaped rock area in front of or on the sides of the court. All vehicles should park along the street (either in the parking area or along the curb parking). Thank you.
Also, the big cycling race is taking place in San Carlos on Saturday, November 30. The finish line is at the Mirador lookout, which is the route we take to get to Mirador Courts. You may want to avoid this area on Saturday, as the road may be closed to car traffic (I say “may be” because we don’t know for sure).
Referee Clinics, December 3 & December 10
Can you count to 11? Are you interested in learning how to ref pickleball games? Or are you familiar with reffing but want some refreshers before the February tournament?
We are holding a referee clinic on Tuesday, December 3 (Part 1) at 11:30am; and on Tuesday, December 10 (Part 2) at 11:30am — both at Mirador Courts. If you’re interested in reffing for the Sombrero Showdown and are new to reffing, both clinics are mandatory. There will be additional refresher clinics in January.
To prepare for Tuesday’s clinic, please do the following:
1. Watch this excellent Pickleball Referee Training Video called: “Ultimate Quick Start Guide to Reffing in Pickleball”. Click here to watch.
2. Download the latest USAPA Referee Handbook.
Even if you’re not sure if you’d ever want to ref a game, give it a try … it will help you learn more about the rules of the game. If you’re injured and can’t currently play, this is a great way to stay in the game. Please bring your pickleball paddle and wear court shoes.
Note that in February’s Sombrero Showdown tournament, refs will be paid 50 pesos per game. We are definitely in need of refs so please help out if you can.
Kindly email Linda at: swanson222@aol.com if you are interested in learning how to be a referee or if you have any questions.
Beginner Clinics, December 4 & December 11
On Wednesday, December 4 & Wednesday, December 11, Theresa (T) Melius and Deb Forrester will lead a 2-part Beginner Clinic, starting at 11:30am at Mirador Courts.
There is a limit of 12 players, so please email Theresa at theresamelius23@gmail.com if you would like to attend.
The focus is on learning the game and on reviewing the fundamentals. Here’s a video showing some Basic Rules.
If you are new to the game or have played a few times and want to learn more to become comfortable during Open Play, then this clinic is for you!
Open to all Beginners — you must have a Mirador Court membership which you can purchase at Seaside Realty. If you are not sure whether you’ll like the sport, then just buy a Weekly Membership in order to take part in this clinic.
We’ll have extra paddles in case you don’t have one, and the balls are provided at the courts.
Come and find out why pickleball has become the fastest growing sport in North America — and in San Carlos too!

Sun & Holiday Fun Pickleball Tournament: December 14
On Saturday, December 14, come play in the Sun & Holiday Fun Round Robin pickleball tournament, which will be held at Mirador Courts, for Mirador Courts members only.
This will be a fun event in the warm sunshine of San Carlos – what a great way to avoid winter!
This tournament is a Round Robin format. A “Round Robin” is a structured form of play designed so that all players are playing against people of roughly equal ability. In each Round Robin, you will play seven games to a score of 11, each with a different partner and against a different pair of opponents.
Spaces are limited, so if you would like to play, please email Theresa (T) Melius asap at theresamelius23@gmail.com. Your space will be confirmed by December 11.
For participating players, on the day of the tournament, meet at 8:15am at Mirador Courts for Check-in. Play will start at 9:00am. Plan on about 3.5 hours of play.
Holiday Party, December 19
Dink the balls for wow’s and glories; Fa la la la la, La la la la!
It’s party time for all you San Carlos pickleball players and your significant others!
On Thursday, December 19, let’s celebrate the holidays together at La Bartina 64 restaurant and bar. Our Social Committee, Hillary, Tammi, and Deb have organized a great event for us all.
For a set price (depending on your meal choice), you’ll get appys, an entree, and dessert! The ticket price also includes the Tip! You’ll buy your own drinks — the restaurant is extending its 2 x 1 Happy Hour for us all night long! (On this night, the 10% discount on drinks for Mirador Courts members will NOT apply.)
The party starts at 5:30pm. The dress is casual, fun, and festive. There’ll be live entertainment, as well as raffle items and other surprises.
What a great excuse to get out of our Quick-dry tee’s, tights, and shorts, and dance the night away or just hang out with your fellow pickleball friends! ALL San Carlos Pickleball Association members are invited (not only those at Mirador Courts).
This year, you must BUY YOUR TICKET IN ADVANCE, and BRING IT TO THE EVENT. We ask that you place it on the table where you sit so the servers know which meal you get. Tickets are being sold at Vive Real Estate (Tammi Miller’s office) in Plaza Arrecifes (behind the new ARCO gas station). Tickets go on sale starting Monday, December 2. The last day to buy your tickets is Monday, December 16.
There are two meal options. Kindly bring the exact pesos for your ticket.
1) Juicy Lucy Burger with Fries (Beef burger stuffed with cheddar cheese, caramelized onion, tomato, lettuce, bacon and spicy mayo sauce. Served with fries.) 120 pesos (red ticket)
2) Salmon Salad (Salmon marinated in honey and lemon juice sauce, served with strawberry slices, black olives, red onion, avocado and sprinkled goat cheese, seasoned.) 200 pesos (green ticket)
If you have any questions, please contact Hillary at dixiemtn@sbcglobal.net.
On behalf of the San Carlos Pickleball Association Board, have a Volley, Jolly Christmas!
