Look at the beautiful location of Mirador Courts
The Halloween Monster Smash Pickleball Tournament was a howling success.

Mirador Court Pickleball Memberships, October 1
Known for being the fastest growing sport, Pickleball is taking the world by storm — and San Carlos is no exception. Mirador Courts boasts 6 community courts, as well as a seating area, restroom facility, Bonifacio’s restaurant, and some of the best views in town.
The new season started on October 1. As of November 20, we have 101 Annual members; 4 Monthly members, and 17 Weekly members.
Please purchase your new membership passes at Seaside Realty in Plaza Arrecifes (behind the ARCO gas station).
This year, we have 3 different types of Pickleball Memberships:
* Annual (1500 pesos for the year — same as last year);
* Monthly (500 pesos per month);
* Weekly (200 pesos per week).
The memberships are color-coded and you’ll be asked to show your membership pass when you play, so please bring it with you each time. The Welcome Letter you’ll receive upon paying for your membership will provide you with court rules and they are also posted on the San Carlos Pickleball website. To be fair to all paying members, please ensure your guests or visiting family members also have passes BEFORE playing on the courts.
In an effort to Reduce/ReUse/Recycle, we are asking players who purchase a Monthly or Weekly membership to kindly deposit their expired pass in the mailbox at the front gate at the courts so that we can reuse the lanyard and plastic cover. Thank you.
There are lots of benefits to being a Mirador Courts member — and it is just so darn fun! More information is available on the website and Facebook page. See you on the courts!
Pro Clinics: Friday, November 24 & Saturday, November 25
We’re starting the pickleball season out with a bang!
James Main has organized pickleball clinics on the mornings of Friday, November 24 and Saturday, November 25.
Friday’s clinic will focus on individual skills and proper technique. Saturday’s clinic will focus on partnering strategies and court awareness among other things.
What a great opportunity to help us improve our skills!
The clinics are both full.
Mirador Courts will be closed for Open Play on both of these mornings, until 10:30am. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
Where does my Membership Money go?
The 8-member Board of Directors make decisions on how to spend the membership fees collected. The board is comprised of non-paid volunteers who all pay the annual fee to play.
*Our agreement with the landowner is to repay the monies spent constructing the courts, which totaled just over $286,000 pesos. We have re-paid $200,000 pesos to date, and will make the final installment next September.
*The Franklin x-40 pickleballs are supplied at the courts.
*The Club owns and stores maintenance equipment, including a pressure washer; gas leaf blower; water hoses, brooms, etc.
*We’ve purchased (and replaced when needed) chairs, tables, umbrellas, bag holders, garbage cans, utility cabinets, folding tables, tents, signage, portable nets and lots of tournament items that we use annually.
*All of the court maintenance, and the rock landscaping and continued maintenance surrounding the courts is paid for by the Club.
*On occasion we hire workers to help with plumbing, electrical, weed and court clean-up, concrete repair, welding, etc.
*We’ve replaced toilets & doors and help with stocking of supplies and maintenance of the restrooms at the courts.
*Over the course of the year, we host various social tournaments and Round Robins and supply drinks, food & prizes.
*We have a healthy reserve account in the bank — some of which we’ll use to repair the crack in the middle of the court and also re-paint these middle two courts before the international Sombrero Showdown tournament.
The Board is thankful for our many volunteers who help to make Mirador Courts an organized and fun place to play pickleball. If you would like to volunteer to help, please contact T at theresamelius23@gmail.com.
Open Play, Monday – Saturday
Open Play takes place every morning except Sunday from 7:00am to 11:30am. In order to accommodate all the skill levels, we are scheduling the Open Play as follows:
Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays:
Players under skill level 3.5 will play on four courts — Courts 4, 5, 6 and 3.
Players skill level 3.5 and above will play on two courts – Courts 1 and 2.
Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays:
Players skill level 3.5 and above will play on four courts — Courts 1, 2, 3 and 6.
Players under skill level 3.5 will play on two courts – Courts 4 and 5.
Continue to use the paddle holders as you are now — lower skill levels use the holders on the wind-sock side; higher skill levels use the paddle holder on the Bonifacio’s side). Please do not re-arrange players’ paddles once they are in the holder.
How do you know your skill level? Base it on what skill level you would play in a tournament — including our upcoming Sombrero Showdown. The USAPA provides Skill Assessment Sheets on their website. Click here for assessments for all skill levels. You can also ask James Main, Darren Thompson, Deb Forrester or Theresa Melius to help you determine your skill rating.
Open play is a great way to meet new friends and hone your skills. You don’t need to gather a group of friends to go play, you can just show up by yourself and get in on a game. Arrive and leave at any time during Open Play.
When you arrive at the courts, put your paddle in the paddle-holder so you can get on a court and PLAY!
You can also check the calendar or court reservation system for Open Play days and times.
And remember, you can reserve your own court anytime around the Open Play times if you want to play with specific people for a few hours or do some drills with a few friends.
Skills & Drills Clinics at Mirador Courts
Effective December 1, here are the Skills & Drills clinic dates and times (note the clinics are AFTER Open Play times). You must be a Mirador Court member to participate in any clinics.
Mondays: Theresa (T) Melius leads the clinic for Beginner & Low Intermediate players, starting at 11:30am.
Wednesday, December 4 & 11: Theresa (T) Melius and Deb Forrester will lead a 2-part Beginner Clinic, starting at 11:30am. The focus is on learning the game and on reviewing the fundamentals.
Thursdays: James Main, Darren Thompson, or Deb Forrester lead the clinic for High Intermediate and Advanced players, starting at 11:30am. If you’re going to participate, you should already know what these shots are and use them consistently in your game: a volley, dink, third shot, soft shot and drive.
A huge THANK YOU to all the clinic leaders and their assistants who offer their time and expertise providing the Club members with the various weekly skills & drills. Come on out and improve your skills with some of the top players in San Carlos.
Round Robin, Sundays
All Mirador Court members are invited to join us on Sundays at 8:00am for Round Robin play. We play for 15 minutes and then rotate players and courts. It’s a great way to meet and play with new people, without worrying about your scores.
Get out there and play!! Thank you to Chris and Mike who organize the Sunday Round Robins.
Sun & Holiday Fun Pickleball Tournament: December 14
On Saturday, December 14, come play in the Sun & Holiday Fun Round Robin pickleball tournament, which will be held at Mirador Courts, for Mirador Courts members only.
This will be a fun event in the warm sunshine of San Carlos – what a great way to avoid winter!
This tournament is a Round Robin format. A “Round Robin” is a structured form of play designed so that all players are playing against people of roughly equal ability. In each Round Robin, you will play seven games to a score of 11, each with a different partner and against a different pair of opponents.
Spaces are limited, so if you would like to play, please email Theresa (T) Melius asap at theresamelius23@gmail.com. Your space will be confirmed by December 11.
For participating players, on the day of the tournament, meet at 8:15am at Mirador Courts for Check-in. Play will start at 9:00am. Plan on about 3.5 hours of play.
Lunch and awards will be given after play at the courts.
