We anticipate a very active and exciting 2026 for SCPC, and the first weeks have certainly not disappointed. Many great things are already underway at San Carlos Pickleball.
We were honored to welcome two professional players in the same month—Andre Mercado and Irina Tereschenko. Our kickoff tournament was a tremendous success, and the courts were buzzing with activity both on and off the court. Our weekly groups are more active than ever, the kids’ outreach program continues to grow, and the Pickle Smart Academy is flourishing.
Friendships formed at the club now go far beyond pickleball. SCPC has become the largest social group in San Carlos. Our community is active, vibrant, and deeply connected—supporting meaningful causes and creating a true sense of belonging. We often hear newcomers say, “We came just to check it out… now we’re staying an extra month… now the whole season… now this feels like our second home.”
Looking ahead, the Board and Management Team are actively preparing several important projects, working on city and state permits for the completion of the perimeter wall, securing a permanent alcohol permit, and the scheduled three-year resurfacing and repainting of the courts. After years of intense and joyful play, our courts proudly display the colorful stories of thousands of games. These improvements will be completed in stages after the high season to ensure the courts remain available year-round. All of this requires dedication, teamwork, and strong leadership—and you can be confident that the SCPC team is fully committed to making it happen.

This month also marked an important milestone with the official appointment of Gary Levinson as President of the San Carlos Pickleball Association during the first Board and Management Team meetings of the year. We trust Gary’s vision and leadership to guide our community forward, uniting the Management Team and Board of Directors around shared goals. His collaborative style—focused on unity, transparency, and long-term sustainability—truly reflects the spirit of SCPC: built together, supported by many, and grounded in gratitude.

Irina Tereschenko Visit
We were honored to welcome professional player Irina Tereschenko — former #1 ranked pickleball player in the world, 5-time Major League Pickleball Champion, PPA Champion, and multiple-time US Open & USAPA National Title holder — to San Carlos for an exclusive clinic experience.
During her time in San Carlos, Irina made multiple appearances at the courts, connecting with our members and truly becoming part of our community. She played at AAA, Táctica Tuesday, joined our Monday volunteering program with the kids, participating in the photoshoot session to support the club promotion and delivered an outstanding Pro-clinic. Irina is a dear friend and long-time supporter of SCPC, believing in the club and our association from the very beginning — the last time she was in San Carlos was even before we built the courts. Her schedule has become incredibly busy with Major League Pickleball tours, but she has continued to follow our growth from afar… And we are so happy she was able to come down and visit the courts. Irina also participated in a sailing regatta and she fully embraced the spirit of San Carlos, and can’t wait to return.
Social Impact Program
This month, we welcomed the kids back from holiday break with a small gift from the club—one they were incredibly proud of. We also surprised them with a special meet-and-greet with Irina Tereschenko, who joined our Monday volunteer sessions and played alongside the teenagers from the orphanage.
Also this week, we delivered an Introduction to Pickleball Clinic for 115 kids at San José Community Elementary School, a humble town about 30 minutes from San Carlos.
The club supported the school by:
✅ Painting pickleball court lines
✅ Donating 2 portable nets
✅ Donating a complete kit of paddles and pickleballs for ongoing practice
The kids were beyond excited, and the school’s sports teacher is now officially hooked on pickleball! She’ll even be joining us on Mondays to keep learning so she can continue practicing with the kids. 🙌 Thank you to everyone who supports this beautiful program. This is how we grow community through sport.
