Hola San Carlos Pickleballers,
As our dear snowbirds bid adieu and the warm embrace San Carlos, our dedication to providing engaging activities remains unwavering. Our weekly events will continue as scheduled, offering plenty of chances for friendly competition in our different round robins, open play, skill improvement lessons, and, most importantly, fun!
But wait, there’s more! Mark your calendars because in just two weeks, we’ll be hosting a GLP Tournament (team style) that promises to be the highlight of April.
See you on the courts! San Carlos Pickleball Club
Update from the President
We are thrilled to announce that the construction of the bathrooms is now officially complete! Not only that, but we’ve also added a shade zone in the middle of the courts for extra comfort and convenience during rest time while you are playing in the mornings. Plus, we’re excited to share that the Donors Wall is now ready, proudly showcasing the names of those who generously have contributed to making this project possible.
A massive thank you to everyone involved in making this vision a reality! Your support has truly transformed our club and made it a better place for everyone. Together we are building the biggest Pickleball club in Latin America — something remarkable that will benefit our pickleball community for years to come.
Let’s continue to work together and make even more positive changes happen at our San Carlos Pickleball Club.
Thank you once again for your incredible contributions and commitment.
Carlos Dessens, President, San Carlos Pickleball Club
GLP Tournament
Join us for the last GLP tournament of the “winter” Season!
In light of the scorching spring heat and intense sun, we’ve made an important decision regarding our upcoming GLP Tournament schedule. It’ll still be over a 2 day period, but on Friday and Saturday evenings. To ensure the safety and comfort of all participants, we have rescheduled the tournament so that it takes place during the cooler evening and night hours. This adjustment aims to provide a more enjoyable and comfortable playing experience for everyone involved.
Here are the updated details:
📅 Date: Friday, April 26 and Saturday, April 27
🕖 Time: Friday we will start at 6:00pm and on Saturday at 5:00pm
We understand that this change may require some adjustments to your plans, but we believe it’s in the best interest of all players. Your safety and well-being are our top priorities, and we’re committed to ensuring a fantastic tournament experience for everyone. To show our appreciation for your support and understanding regarding the schedule change, we’re thrilled to announce a special offer: the first 50 people to register for the tournament will receive a complimentary tournament T-shirt as a token of our gratitude!
We are also introducing two age categories: one for players over 50 years of age and another for those under 50. This change aims to create a more inclusive and competitive environment, allowing players to compete against others in their own age group.
And last but not least, this GLP Tournament has a prize pool of over 15,000 pesos!
All players will be drafted to a team by a Captain and then your team will be revealed during the Friday Night Team Reveal Party. Teams consist of four players (players will register as individuals) and all teams will play a round robin, followed by play-offs.
Grab your paddle, rally with the best, and let the games begin!
What’s On
Elevate your game with our Pickleball Lessons and Workshops

Elevate your game with pickleball lessons, workshops, drill sessions and video assessments!

What’s New?
The Club now has a defibrillator on-site
We want to extend our deepest gratitude to Steve & Winnie Rivinius (who got this project started), Jeff & Wendy, Michelle & Norbert, Tibby & Gary, Wendee & Matt, Lynn Cannon, Christa & Sue, and Kelly & Scott for your donation towards the purchase of a defibrillator for our club.
Your contribution has enabled us to acquire a vital piece of lifesaving equipment. With this defibrillator on hand, we have enhanced our ability to respond quickly and effectively in the event of a medical emergency, potentially saving lives in the process.
Pro Shop is now OPEN at the Courts
Our Pro Shop is now open at the courts. We are still in the construction process but now it is fully stocked with paddles, shirts, hats, grips, sand sun-shades and more. Plus, stay tuned – pickleball balls are coming soon to our pro shop!
We are open from 7:00am to 3:00pm. The pro shop is located next to the bathrooms.
Member Spotlight: Tibby Levinson
Hi, I’m Tibby Levinson, born and raised in Nebraska, then I moved to Denver through high school. I rode my horse to school. We came to San Carlos to visit my dad Bill Wehmiller who moved here in 1989. He had a home on the Caracol which we visited in the 90’s. We fell in love with San Carlos, bought our lot in 2001 and built our home 10 years later and have lived here nine months each year ever since.
In 2016 we discovered pickleball due to the generosity of Karen Stewart who taught us at her home court. We then started playing wherever there was a court. Costa Del Mar, Puesta del Sol, Tecalai, etc. The Mirador Courts brought us all together followed by our new courts in the Ranchitos which I’m sure are the envy of many. From the moment I “discovered” pickleball, I fell completely in love with the game and the people and have been playing ever since.
What do you do as a warm up before playing?
As a warm up, I do a few stretches and some dinking drills for about 10 minutes. I like to add fast hands, a few serves and some drop shots so that my warm up is with a purpose. I don’t want my dinking warm up to be the only time I dink in a game. For years I just hit the ball back and forth without a lot of thought to technique — but now I want each shot to be placed and as I said, with a purpose. It of course doesn’t always happen.
What are you working on to improve your game right now?
I’m trying to work on anticipating my opponent shots and not setting my partner up for failure. Most importantly I want to have a great time playing with everyone.
